At Indiana University you can make overseas study a part of your regular degree program, whatever your major. You can spend an academic year, semester, summer, or even a few weeks abroad while earning IU credit.
Overseas study is the most effective experience you can have to broaden your intercultural awareness. You can enhance the knowledge of your major/minor in an international context, learn about a specific country/region, acquire language skills, and strengthen a range of personal skills.
Explore the Options
Start exploring the wide range of opportunities for study abroad early in your university career. The best ways to discover the types of programs available are to read profiles of IU students who have studied abroad and to review our guidelines for choosing a program.
IU offers over 250 overseas study programs in 17 languages (including English) in 52 countries and in nearly every field of study. You do not have to be fluent in another language. While some programs require a strong language background and others provide language instruction, many programs offer courses in English. We can also help you plan an alternative overseas experience, such as working or volunteering in another country.
Academic and Financial Considerations
You can study abroad and still graduate on time. Research shows IU students who study abroad tend to graduate in less time than others. Course work abroad can satisfy many requirements.
