CIC Shared Programs

Indiana University encourages students to seriously consider studying in under-represented locations. There are a number of such semester and academic year opportunities offered by other Big 10 Institutions through the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC). These programs are CIC Shared Programs, and are often more affordable for Indiana University students than many other non-IU programs.

Those interested in these options should contact Overseas Study to obtain more information and receive guidance on the additional procedures to follow, in addition to the general procedures for participation in non-IU programs.

NOTES: Any time a travel warning is issued by the U.S. Department of State, IU will not approve or support participation in a program in that country. That is, you may not retain your IU status or apply your financial aid to the costs of the program.

"Mainstreamed courses" or "mainstreaming" refers to taking courses with host national students in the university abroad and possibly living with host national students in university housing.

In an increasingly competitive global economy, the international dimension of education is becoming more and more important. Indeed, it is a matter of practical necessity: we have to provide it as a part of a good education, and students increasingly demand it."

Non-IU Procedures

A number of IU students each year choose to participate in a program organized by a different university or program provider. To determine the steps you need to take to study on a non-IU program, read more about non-IU procedures.
