Dear Study Abroad Students,

The Office of Overseas Study seeks students studying in unique locations around the world this summer to share their experience on our study abroad blog. The blog provides a window into the experience of preparing for, being abroad, and returning home, that is essential for prospective students to fully realize the benefits and challenges of studying abroad. We share the blog through our website, newsletters, and across all of our social media channels.

If you would like to apply, please read the instructions below closely.

Please note that this is an unpaid position.

Blogging Requirements & Expectations

Selected study abroad bloggers will:

  • Have been accepted to a program offered by the IU Office of Overseas Study.
  • Exhibit a solid grasp of spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Demonstrate an ability to reflect upon your experiences, rather than simply reciting events.

Our bloggers are expected to:

  • Have internet access.
  • Summer Bloggers: Submit one pre-departure post, at least one post while abroad one post after returning to the U.S.
  • Dedicate themselves to crafting well-written stories that will contribute to readers' understanding of the international experience.
  • Provide in-depth peer knowledge about a program and the host country.
  • Cover a variety of topics concerning study abroad in general and their individual programs, primarily concerning academics, cultural experiences and culture shock.
  • Please note: we will reject content that doesn't adhere to the IU Code of Student Conduct or that we feel is innapropriate for the website.

Our Goals & Process

The Office of Overseas Study aims to provide a transparent view into the lives of our students abroad. Posts will appear in the "Student Stories from Abroad" section of our website.

While we welcome stories of travels and food, this is not a travel blog or a food blog - it is a study abroad blog. Each blog post should provide insight into your unique perspective as a student studying abroad. Some of our favorite posts are when students discover a foreign perspective on their field of study, or rediscover themselves in a global context.

We encourage the inclusion of photos and videos in blog posts. (If you are only interested in producing and sharing photos and/or videos  and not writing blog posts — please contact us about other opportunities.)

How to Apply

Please contact our office's communications coordinator, Caleb Gardner (wicgardn@iu.edu). Be sure to include your name, year, and program. While we prefer bloggers to have writing experience, it is not required.
