Five-week program in Salamanca, Spain for MAT (Master's of Arts in Teaching) students.
- IUPUI and the Universidad de Salamanca sponsor this Summer Institute for Spanish Teachers.
- Intensive instruction in Spanish grammar, linguistics, culture, literature and other arts.
- Practicing Spanish teachers may participate for continuing education.
- Academic Program
Coursework at the University of Salamanca offered in 2 five-week programs taken in consecutive years:
SPAN-S 521: Spanish Grammar and Linguistics for Teachers I (3 cr.) This course presents themes and issues in Spanish grammar and in Hispanic linguistics selected for their relevance to teaching Spanish to non-native students. Pedagogical implications and teaching strategies will be discussed. Content is distinct from that of SPAN-S 524.
SPAN-S 523: Spanish Literature, Art and Culture for Teachers I (3 cr.) This course presents authors, artists, themes and issues in Spanish literature, visual art and cultural life selected to enrich the teaching of Spanish to non-native students. Pedagogical implications and teaching strategies will be discussed. Content is distinct from that of SPAN-S 525.
SPAN-S 524: Spanish Grammar and Linguistics for Teachers II (3 cr.) This course presents themes and issues in Spanish grammar and in Hispanic linguistics selected for their relevance to teaching Spanish to non-native students. Pedagogical implications and teaching strategies will be discussed. Content is distinct from that of SPAN-S 521.

- HousingStudents have the option of living in a dorm room or with a Spanish family. The overall program cost may be reduced if the student chooses to find housing on their own.
- Program Eligibility
You may apply if you:
- are an undergraduate student at any Indiana University campus who is making normal academic progress
- Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree
- Must have sufficient advanced coursework in Spanish to be a successful participant in the Summer Institute
Students must be able to demonstrate flexibility, resilience, and self-reliance.
Complete eligibility criteria and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures of the Office of Overseas Study. Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose, and appropriateness of match between program and applicant. Students on disciplinary probation during program period are ineligible.
