- Program OrganizationThe IU Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health is offering a unique one-week international experience that will provide students with an opportunity to learn about healthcare systems around the world, with special emphasis on Sweden. Program participants will receive an in-depth introduction to the health system in Sweden and have an opportunity to compare and contrast the health systems in Sweden and the U.S.
- Academic Program
Students will earn 3 credits for this course. Undergraduate students will enroll in PBHL-P450. Graduate students will enroll in PBHL-H670. To view a draft syllabus for the course, see here.
This is an elective course in the School of Public Health. Environmental Health Science students may count the course for minor requirements. They will need to see their advisor about this. Students in majors outside the school who are interested in health and healthcare may also earn elective credit.
The available coursework is particularly suited for, but not necessarily limited to, the following academic interests: Public Health/Public Health Administration, Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, Health Sciences, Nursing, and Public Affairs and Administration.

Students must also attend all four pre-trip course sessions in Indianapolis on the following dates:
- Session #1: Monday, May 8th from 2:00-4:00pm (RG 6040)
- Session #2: Wednesday, May 10th from 9:00am-12:30pm (RG 6040)
- Session #3: Friday, May 12th from 1:00-4:00pm (RG 6040)
- Session #4: Monday, May 15th from 12:00-5:00pm (TBD Location)

- Program Eligibility
You may apply if you:
- are an undergraduate student at any Indiana University campus who is making normal academic progress
- Preference will be given to applicants from IUPUI, but students from other IU campuses are welcomed.
- Graduate students from the Fairbanks School of Public Health may also attend, and supplemental coursework is assigned.
- This program is designed for junior or senior undergraduate students who are interested in health and healthcare at an international level, but students of all majors are welcome to apply.

Students must be able to demonstrate flexibility, resilience, and self-reliance.
Complete eligibility criteria and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures of the Office of Overseas Study. Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose, and appropriateness of match between program and applicant. Students on disciplinary probation during program period are ineligible.
