Course Load

• • 6 IU credits
    • Required 3-credits in Spanish
      • Spanish Language course 
        • Spanish Language in Context: Novice Abroad I (HISP-S 100)
        • Spanish Language in Context: Emerging Independent Abroad I (HISP-OS 100**)
        • Spanish Language in Context: Independent Abroad I (HISP-S 200)
        • Advanced Spanish Language in Context: Narratives of Experiential Learning (HISP-S 317)
    • Required 3-credit course from selection below
      • The Heritage of Al Andalus (HISP-OS 100)
      • Management and Sustainability of Mediterranean Ecosystems (BIOL-OS 300 – must confirm with Biology department how course may fulfill degree requirements)
      • Spain and Morocco: Sustainable Migration and the Decolonization of International Relations (INTL-I 300)

  *-OS 100 (-OS 300) is the default designation to identify education abroad recorded as 100-level (300-level) undistributed credit that can count in total hours toward graduation and may be able to satisfy major, minor or distributional requirements with the approval of participant's school or the department.

  ** Course has been evaluated by the IU Department of Spanish & Portuguese and is only approved for HISP-OS 100 credit.

You may apply if you:

• are an undergraduate student at any Indiana University campus who is making normal academic progress
• are in at least your fourth full-time semester of college
• have approximately a 2.75 cumulative GPA

Students must have a passport valid for six months beyond program's end date.

Students must be able to demonstrate flexibility, resilience, and self-reliance.

Complete eligibility criteria and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures of Education Abroad. Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose, and appropriateness of match between program and applicant. Students on disciplinary probation during program period are ineligible.

Financial Aid and Scholarships:

• IU scholarships, grants and loans applicable to program costs with some exceptions. Please carefully check these exceptions before you commit to a program.
• IES Abroad guaranteed aid of up to $7,000 (semester) or up to $3,000 (summer) based on confirmation of official FAFSA Expected Family Contribution. See details. Also see IES Abroad Scholarships and Aid available.
