You may apply if you:

• are an undergraduate student at any Indiana University campus who is making normal academic progress
• are in at least your fourth full-time semester of college
• have taken or are enrolled in second semester college-level Japanese
• have approximately a 2.75 cumulative GPA

Students who have completed four semesters of Japanese or more should review information and eligibility criteria for the Nagoya-IU program.

Students must have a passport valid for six months beyond program's end date.

Students must be able to demonstrate flexibility, resilience, and self-reliance.

Complete eligibility criteria and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures of the Office of Overseas Study. Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose, and appropriateness of match between program and applicant. Students on disciplinary probation during program period are ineligible.

Fall 2022

• IU portion of fee: $237.21
• IES portion of fee* paid to IU bursar: $21,500 (IES academic fees, room, most meals, field trips)
• Additional meals: $1,375 - $3,210
• International Airfare: IES estimates $855 - $1,445

*Program fee reflects discounted fee for IU students after benefit of the $2,000 IES Public University Grant. Based on published IES materials. Indiana University cannot guarantee the prices charged by IES and is not responsible for any price increase or change. 

Airfare, health insurance, visa, personal expenses, and vacation travel additional. Initial prepayment of $500 due March 15, 2022.

Spring 2023

Financial Aid and Scholarships:

• IU scholarships, grants and loans applicable to program costs with some exceptions. Please carefully check these exceptions before you commit to a program.

• National Freeman-ASIA Scholarship awarded on a competitive, need-based basis (applications due once a year in March)

• IES Abroad Merit-based, Diversity Scholarships, Legacy Scholarships and Disability Grants available.
