Vienna has been home to many great composers including Mozart, Beethoven and Mahler. It is truly a “city of music.” On this co-sponsored summer program, students take two courses: a music history course and a music workshop at the IES Abroad center with other U.S.-based students.

- IES Abroad "Summer Music" Program*
- 6 IU credits for 2 IES Abroad courses from the following:
- German language course** (level assigned by IES placement test)
- GR 101 German Language in Context: Novice Abroad I (GER-G 100)
- GR 201 German Language in Context: Novice Abroad III (GER-G 150)
- GR 301 German Language in Context: Emerging Independent I (GER-G 200) PLUS
- Music History (MUS-M 410, 3 cr.) OR
- Summer 2022: Music of the Biedermeier Era
- IES Abroad Music Workshop (depends on instrument/voice, 3 cr.)
- German language course** (level assigned by IES placement test)
- Field trips and cultural events
This program is restricted to students of Music and Music Technology.
Course Load
- 6 IU credits
**Students who have completed less than two semesters of German language are required to take a 3-credit German language course and can select one 3-credit music course taught in English.
Students who have completed at least two semesters of German language can choose to take the next language course (if available), or take two music courses taught in English.

- Program Eligibility
You may apply if you:
- are an undergraduate music major at any Indiana University campus who is making normal academic progress
- are in at least your fourth full-time semester of college
- have completed Music T232 (with a grade of C or better) and Music T252
- have approximately a 2.75 cumulative GPA
Note: Performance majors also need approval of major performance study professor.
Students must have a passport valid for six months beyond program's end date.
Students must be able to demonstrate flexibility, resilience, and self-reliance.
Complete eligibility criteria and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures of the Office of Overseas Study. Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose, and appropriateness of match between program and applicant. Students on disciplinary probation during program period are ineligible.

- IES Abroad portion of fee* paid to IU bursar: $7,956 (academic fees, housing, orientation, field trips, health insurance)

- International airfare: $600 - $1,400

** IES fees cover the cost of 6 credits. Additional fee of $175 per credit hour would be included for additional enrollment. Invoicing for this additional amount may occur after student is abroad.
Personal expenses and vacation travel additional. Initial prepayment of $500 due March 15, 2022.
